After breakfast we left our hotel in Ambleside and headed off to the Scottish Borders area. We stopped at the village of Glenridding on Ullswater the second largest lake in the Lake District. Ater our comfort stop we headed via the village of Alston to the Vindolanda Archaelogical Site, the site of an old Roman fort just South of Hadrian's Wall.
Dare I say the site was a history tragic's paradise. I found both the site and the museum most interesting.
We had lunch at Vindolanda after which we proceeded via the remnants of Hadrian's wall in the area crossing the border at Gretna Green (a singularly underwhelming place) and proceeded to our last night of the tour at Friars Carse.
Here we were greeted by Callum a piper. At dinner Calum recited Robbie Burn's "Address to a Haggis" before slicing and serving it out to the group.
