The next day we made our way to Bittburg, where we went on a tour of the Bittburger Brewery. It was interesting but dare I say not as good a tour as the one we did of the Pilsner Urquell Brewery in Pilsen on our last trip to Europe
There were a lot of audio visual panels with the names of differentprocesses. The process "Maischen" took my interest. The surname Maish is from the same origin as the more Germanic spelling of Maisch. As most surnames 'back in the day' came from the occupation of the person, for instance Baker, Smith, Cooper etc I figure the surname Maish dervives from someone who was involved in the mashing process in a brewery. That could explain a lot.
That evening we went to the town of Echternach in Luxembourg which was close to where we were staying.
The next morning we drove to Mettlach on the Saar river and visited the Villeroy & Boch factory.
After lunch we drove to the Sarrschleife where the Saar river turns back on itself.
Below is the pdf of the part of the Photobook I made that covers this part of our wanderings in Germany.
