Our first morning in Germany we drove out to the village of Gruiten which it in the River Düssel which was full of protected half timbered houses.

After lunch we went back to the main city of Düsseldorf. While Uta and Marie-Therese had coffeee and a chat I went on what could be best described as an organised "Pub Crawl", namely the Düsseldorf Altbier Safari.

This entailed visiting 5 of the local brew pubs who produce the traditional Alt Bier which is a nice top fermented dark ale. 5 pubs, 5 beers and a couple on top at the last pub with Uta and Marie Therese. Fortunately the default glass in these pubs is 250mls.
